Q: How does PROCYON work without soap? A: PROCYON's all natural degreasers and water softeners dissolve and emulsify contaminants and soil. Particulates that are not rinsed out dry to a crystallized form allowing easy removal with a good vacuum cleaner. This will leave no soapy, sticky, residue in your carpets. Q: Is it safe for children and pets? A: Yes, it is non-toxic, odor free and has no enzymes that eat protein (our skin)! Q: How do I use the spotter? A:Simple...just spray beyond the affected area, let set a few minutes, and blot with a white, non-bleached towel, then dry with a different towel. Q: Why does my carpet rapidly resoil in traffic lanes? A: There may be an insufficient amount of matting at the facility's entrance to trap or scrape off the foreign debris on people's shoes before it gets into a facility. If there are mats in place, are they properly cleaned and vacuumed on a frequent basis? Also, residue in carpets left behind by continuous bonnet buffing procedures or improper extraction techniques. Q: What is wicking and why does it occur? A: It is the process by which liquid is drawn up through an object by way of capillary action. Reappearing spots and rapid resoiling can both be results of wicking. These are spots which have apparently been removed but which reappear, either upon drying or over time. A spot remover is used to get rid of a spot. The remover is designed to detach the soil from the fiber and suspend the soil in its liquid state. Then, through a removal process like blotting or a hand held extractor, the spotting agent and the soil are removed. However, if all the liquid is not removed, the soil remains suspended. Over a short period of time, the liquid is drawn up the carpet fiber along with the soil. When the liquid reaches the top of the strand, it evaporates leaving behind the soil which creates a reappearing spot. Q: What can I use to disinfect my carpet? A: Currently, there are no approved methods to disinfect three dimensional surfaces, like carpet and fabrics, only sanitize these surfaces. Sanitization refers to the reduction of bacteria present, while disinfection refers to killing all organisms on a surface.
Q: I have been told that bleaching the grout lines will make them look whiter? Is this true? A: Bleach will make them brighter, but you may need to check with the grout manufacturer before starting to be sure the color wasn’t dyed, bleach will certainly remove the color.
Q: I have what looks like water stains on my tiles in my kitchen, what could they be? How can I remove them?
A: ‘Water’ stains could be several different things, depending on the particular tile you have. Most of the time, water or mineral deposits can be removed with either polishing with honing powders and a hog hair pad or by using specific acid cleaners. Please DO NOT attempt either of these without proper training as you may permanently damage the tile. To remove these stains it may be necessary to contact the professional who supplied you with this report.
Q: I bought a ‘steamer’ to clean my tile floors with, it works pretty well, but some of the grout lines are cracking? What should I do?
A: Firstly, I would cease all ‘steaming’ of that floor until you have the grout repaired. Moisture that gets between the tile and sub-floor will be trapped under your tiles and will expand and loosen tile from the concrete or sub-floor. Rinsing the floor is a good thing BUT, you need the right products to make sure you are not damaging the sealer. There is one product available that will actually seek out any weak areas in the sealer and fill them in while you’re cleaning! Ask your hard surface specialist about it!
Q: How long will sealers last?
A: That depends on the sealer, the method of application and the frequency and type of maintenance. Anywhere from six months to ten years or more.
